Week Dosage

This weeks words are freedom, commitment, reward. Freedom is when you are able to do what you want when ever you want to. Freedom is what is needed if a person ever wants to be truly happy with themselves. Commitment is when you stay dedicated to a certain objective until it is completed. You need this in order to complete anything in life because, nothing is always going to be easy and you need to stay committed in order to complete it. A reward is when you are give something after completing a goal that was set for you. A reward can be used as motivation to complete thing. If you use all three you can accomplish great things and live a happy life.

Not as I planned…

My first ever college semester is finally over and I had a lot of ups and downs. I didn’t reach my goal that set for myself for my grades for my first semester. I was hoping for B’s but, most of my grades are C‘s. At least I passed all of my classes and didn’t fail anything. I feel that next semester I can pick up my grades because, one major issue that I had was my procrastination with my school work. Now I know for next semester I have to finish my school work as soon as possible. After football practice I am physically tired and the longer I wait the later it gets. When I gets later I become more tired and I want to go to sleep as soon as possible.

One major challenge that I had was when I missed a math test and my teacher was trying to fail me for the year. I felt grateful that I scored high enough on my final in order to pass it with a high grade. I know I passed because, of hard work and studying. I knew that I was bad in math it’s just the missed test that messed up my average. I felt proud of myself when I was able to pass the class and not fail because, it could mess up my football career and college career.

For INQ I am happy to say that it was my favorite college course out of all my classes. Even with all the blog’s I missed because, I forget to do them I still enjoyed the class. Sometimes it felt like a chore to do every week but, the topics that I had a chance to write about made it better. I loved the class discussion because, we were able to say our opinions on different topics. Also we were able to learn different tips and tricks about attending SCSU. I feel that making newcomers take INQ is a great choice by SCSU because, without that class I will be lost.

The FYE program was also a very helpful tool for my first semester. They offered different programs and events I could attend during the weekend’s. This help out a lot so I wouldn’t lose my mind on the weekends because, I didn’t always have money to go out with my friends. Also it was safer to attend to because, I didn’t have to worry about my drunk friends getting hurt or having to get into a fight. For some reason every time we go out me or my friends are about to get into a brawl because, people always threaten us thinking we will roll over and when we don’t back down they have to prove themselves. We have to look out for each other because, we all play football and also they are my friends. My friends and I were threatened to be shot by a gun more then once and we were threatened to get beat up during and after parties. Lucky each time the people were all talk and nothing happened to us. The best way to avoid conflict is to show no fear so people will leave you alone and not be tempted to mess with you.

The FYE program gave me a chance to have fun without having to worry about someone trying to fight with us. Also we get to save cab fare and are able to get free southern gear by attending these events. FYE and INQ class saved me so many times from the dangers of new haven. I enjoy SCSU and thanks these the people, professor’s, and different programs I was able to have a safe and eventful time. If anyone would ever ask me I would tell them that SCSU is a great school to look at for college!!!

All good thing must come to an end…

Now it is starting to become the end of the semester and we all know what that mean…finals. I am finally finishing up my first ever college semester and so far I love college. I enjoy the freedom and all of my friends that I have meet. In order to keep enjoying myself here I have to be able to stay in the school. Not just from payments but, having the grades to stay in school and the only way to do that is to do good on all of my finals.

The only way to do good on finals is to study beforehand. What I am going to do is study my courses in the order that my tests are. Also what I want to do is try and make a study group between me and my friends. I want to see how it works out because, work together can be a great way to learn the material. Also I not going to spend a lot of time on the material that I already understand because, it will be pointless. I plan on spending more time studying work that I do not understand that well.

Also I plan on creating flash cards to help me memorize words better and also since I am with my friends I can have them quiz me so when I practice I don’t cheat. Also the night before I will go to sleep early and get my outfit for the next day together before I sleep rather than in the morning. Also I will prepare my bag for what items I will need for the test such as pens, pencils, calculator, etc. As long as I prepare myself well for the finals I should have no problems for the final.

What i learned

From watching other people’s drafts in class I realized a whole bunch of things I can add to my final to make it better. People had very creative skits for their drafts. Also some people had pictures as I did but, they added sound effects as soon as the image loaded. I thought this was cool because, it was creative ad caught my attention to make me enjoy the video more. Also what I didn’t like was when there were a lot of words on the slides. Also to make it worse there was no sound effects so it made the drafts look boring.

I want to add music to my final product because, it helps to keep people attention. I liked how music made my fellow students react. It made them happy and for some videos made people sing along to it which I loved because, that means that people are paying attention to the video. Also I want to try and make sound effects to go along with images that I show. For example I wanted to add a scary sound effect if it is bad news or something to have people get more involved in the video. Also to my video when I show information I will not put too much information on a page at once. I noticed that it may overwhelm the viewer with too much information. Also I will adjust the timing of how long information shows because, I don’t want to show information to fast or show it for too long.

When I add these changes to my draft I feel it can make my video a lot better. Just by adding these changes to my video I feel I can improve my grade by about 10 points. I feel showing all these draft in class was a great way to see our peers work and help us improve our own work.

In support of children with cancer...

This week in the student center they had an event where student sold baked good in order to donate profits to a hospital. They explained how there are children around the world they may not even make it to ten years old because, of this. I was not aware of how severe of a problem that it is. I knew about it but, I didn’t know how many children it effected and it made me want to donate in order to help in any way that I can. Also they told me they researched the place where the donations go so the money won’t go towards someone’s pay check. Also another reason I was happy to donate was because, they gave me a cupcake!!! On a more serious note I was very happy to donate to the cause.

Is it needed?

Is Creativity or Liberal Arts more important to teach in school?

I think you need a little bit of both in schools because, you need both in order to be successful in any task. You need to know the basics when you try to be creative in order to create any idea you have. Also there is no point of learning the basics if you are not going to apply your new found knowledge into something productive. Both are needed to complete even the most basic of task. The work together just as your two legs work together when walking.

Creativity can give someone the drive to do something worth-while. Creativity is what all great inventers used in order to create the next big thing. Creativity is what gives people the drive to improve already invented objects to improve quality of living. Creativity is what can get you a better grade by going above and beyond with any task you have.

Liberal arts are needed so people can at least know how to function in the most basic conversations. Without this people may be out of the loop a lot because, of the lack of knowledge that a person knows. With liberal arts people can be creative in a lot of ways. A person may not be the smartest person in the world but, if they combine the two they can accomplish a lot. Both things are needed in to even make it out of elementary school. They wont let you leave without knowing how to read and write. Also they assign you projects where you have to think outside of the box and the more creative usually the better the grade. Even in 1st grade they try to teach you simple math and reward you by coloring pictures. Most may think of it as just coloring but, you are using your brain to create your ideas.

Weekly Dosage

This week’s word are creativity, innovation, and will. Creativity is when you think outside of the box by making something different from everyone else. Creativity is needed in order to make your work unique. Innovation is when you strive to improve already invented objects. Innovation is always needed in order to improve living among people. Will is what drives people to accomplish the smallest or biggest goals no matter how hard it is. This is always needed in the work force because, if you are working with another person it can help you work fast and more efficient. When you use all three of these things together nothing can stand in your way.

which means more to you???

True value of liberal arts

What is the value of liberal arts???
“Liberal arts is founded on a whole person, developing a person athletically and academically. Liberal arts is going international. The 21st century is one of entrepreneurship and innovation. There will not be fixed careers. The liberal arts teaches you to think outside the box.”
By: Professor Chopp

Liberal arts not only helps you get a degree for a major of your choice but, generally educates you in the basics. By the basics I mean things such as math and reading. Some may think you may not use these skills in the real world but they are sadly mistaken. No one will want to hire a person who can’t do basic math to solve simple problems. Or won’t be able to complete a task from their boss because, they can’t read and understand what the boss emailed them to do.
In the quote from this week’s readings it Professor Chopp it speaks that entrepreneurship is a major thing in today’s 21st century. Without knowing the basics there is no way a person can run and/or properly maintain a business. Some may say that the math that is thought today such as calculus will never be needed if I want to be a fireman or something that doesn’t really involve advanced math. With that comment a person is wrong because, when people do harder levels of math it keeps the brain working and helps you intake information better. So in fact these hard problems that everyone hates is in fact making you smarter.
Also learning liberal arts is good just for being educated and knowing what you are talking about. When leaving college most schools want you to be at a certain intellectual level. For example do you really want to have a doctor operate on you if they can’t read off of a paper what’s wrong with you???

A trip downtown…

A few weeks ago I went downtown for the first time to go to a club. I was kind of excited but, I was also kind of nervous. I heard stories about how the buses sometimes stop working after a certain time and I didn’t want to walk back to campus. So when we got to downtown it was nice and it reminded me about New York a little bit. We ended up taking a cab home because, we were too afraid to depend on anything else. The overall feel when downtown was a good one. I lived in the city my whole life and it felt good to see some stores around and buildings in order to make me feel like I am home.

Weekly Dosage...

This week’s words are innovation, intelligence, and dedication. Innovation is when you try to think outside of the box in order to create something different. This is needed in order to create great things and inventions. Intelligence is how smart someone is and that is needed in order to make your dream become a reality. Dedication is when you put all of your energy into one thing. When you combine these three things any task can be completed. One would be able to impress themselves when they set their mind to something and with some smarts you can turn that idea into a reality.

How My Peers Feel…

Blog B

One great question that I read from one of my peers is that “are schools at fault for killing creativity?” by Jeff. I feel that some schools are because, some school wants kids to be only taught one way and teachers are frowned a pun for not following the procedures. One example is that I went to a catholic school and they wanted us to be taught the way they wanted. Also at this school they only gave us textbooks that they approved for us to be taught out of. They feel that some textbooks teach thing that go against the catholic beliefs so they didn’t want us to read it.

I felt that it is not fair because, they are withholding information from us. So they choose to have their student to remain ignorant in certain topics because, they didn’t agree with it. In my high school they didn’t even want to teach revolution because, they felt it went against god. So I do agree that it is the schools fault that peoples creativity is not as good as it could be. Some schools hold back its students in order to have the student body act a certain way. It is as if they try to program us to think a certain way which is bad and can hold back students.

I also agree with jeff when he said that the schools hold them back with the point that he gave with the child dancer with A.D.D. I feel that this is a strong response because, he stated information  from an outside source to back up his opinion which can make his argument valid. I can apply this to my studying skills because, sometimes just learning the material isn’t enough. When using outside sources to help better understand a topic can help you out in the long run.

Is It College Worthy???

As you become older your school work will should become harder and harder. Just so you can challenge yourself with harder work so you can become smarter. In college most question will want you to analyze a problem before answering it. In high school they may want you to just answer the question and that’s it but, college you have to take it a step forward. One great question was “would you rather hire a hard worker or a creative worker? Why?”

This is a good question because, it forces you to think deeper for the answer to the question. It is also a good question because, both workers have their benefits. The question is which one do you think will benefit you more or which one do you believe has more value. Hard work and creativity are both two things that are important and not only do you have to pick one but, you have to explain it.

I would rather hire a hard worker because, I will always have a guarantee job done when hiring a hard worker. If you hire a creative worker they may not get the job done because, they took too long trying to be different with the task. Also if you hire a hard worker they may try and be a little bit more creative to go out of their way in order to do the task to the best of their ability.

Some more great questions are “can you still be creative without inspiration from an outside source? Why?”. Another great question is that “ is it worth trying to be creative I someone does not value your work?”. Another good question is “do you think schools should focus more on creativity or no? why?”. These are good question because, they are opinion question which can never be wrong. The only problem is that you have to back up that opinion in order to be correct.

Halloween Parties!!!

During this week I attended a party downtown at a place called toads. It was not a regular party though because, people were all dressed up in costumes. I thought it was fun because, people were dancing and they had good music. Also in farnham hall they threw a little party which I also thought was a great party. They had food their with a costume contest and of course a lot of candy. It felt good that people had the Halloween spirit all around. It was fun because, it was my first college Halloween parties and I never really went to Halloween parties before when I was younger and even when I was in high school.

Weekly Dosage...

This week’s words are creativity, inspiration, and innovation thinking. Creativity is when you think outside of the box to do or create things that is different from everyone else. Some people find creativity enjoyable because, not everyone is good at it or chooses to embrace it. Inspiration is something that makes you want to do or try something. For example a child may watch LeBron James play basketball and be inspired to be the best that they can be in that sport. It is always good to be open minded to be inspired because, when people work off of inspiration the outcome of their work is usually very good. Innovation thinking is when someone finds new methods or new ways of thinking when doing an activity. This is always needed to improve the way of living for people as a whole. If you tie these three things together the outcome of anything you try to accomplish will always be good.

Creative bibliography

Everyone is good at something you just have to find out what it is. Being creative is a skill that people don’t like to work on. One question is that “what is the dumbest idea?”. I believe that there are no dumb ideas and as long as you believe in that idea it was a success. Not all inventions will work but, in is great to use innervation in order to try and make your idea a reality. These ideas may improve living for everyone by improving inventions already created inventing things to improve quality of living by simplifying things.

Another great question was “was anyone there to witness or appreciate it?”. Sometimes you don’t need the acceptance of other in order to be great. Sometimes just inventing something in order to complete a person’s personal goals. Also you may not need feedback from other because, you may be testing out something and it may not be your best work. Also when people invent things or ideas don’t  immediately broadcast it to everyone they know. They may tell a few people but, that is it. When they invent their idea they try to improve it to the best of their ability then when the inventor feels that their invention is ready then they start to show it off to people.

One of my greatest fears of all is not having people not accept me. I felt the fear question was one of the best questions to be asked. I work my hardest to fit in with people but, not by following what everyone else is doing. Rather than do that I try to be myself to the best of my ability and have people like me for that. I am afraid of people judging me in a negative way after we have passed the first impression stage. Not everyone has a good first impression but, as I get to know a person I would hope that they would learn to like me. If they don’t I actually become very self-consensus about it and it bothers me to the point that I will go out of my way to make that person like me. They only time I don’t care if a person doesn’t like me is if I don’t like them but, it takes a lot for me not to like you.

Midterm Reflection…

Last week we submitted our midterm videos and I worked really hard on it. I followed the requirements and guideline for the project. My video was over five minutes long and I interviewed the required amount of people. Also so the video was not boring I added music to the interview to keep people’s attention and not make it seem like the video was dragging on. I also asked different question to different age groups to get their perspectives on topics. My interviews involved a freshman, sophomore and someone that’s staff. This technique was good to show the aspects of how people feel being a student athlete.

For all this work that I did for this midterm video I don’t expect anything less than an A. some may think that I am aiming really high but, I feel I worked really hard on these video. Also I used my peer’s feedback to adjust my video. Even up to the point of making words stay on the screen two seconds longer so that it is easier for people to read it. I also think that this was good because, I may think that it is easy to read something but, others may find it more challenging. Also I didn’t think about people that are slow readers.
Also the technology I used was windows movie maker and I found it quite easy to use. I had a little bit of experience with this software because, I made highlight tapes for me and my football teammates. With this video I was able to learn a few more tip and tricks to use and add to my video. Such as screen effects plus starting and stopping music from playing when people talk. I felt that I made this video look very professional and I was very happy with the outcome of my hard work. I’m not going to lie I finished my video the day before Thursday before submitting it. The only reason I took so long was that it was hard to meet with people for interviews. Overall though I feel that if I would have took more time I could have made the video better but, I was very satisfied of my final product that I submitted.

Weekly Dosage…

This week’s words are critical thinking, concentration, and inspiration. Critical thinking is when you find the deeper meaning of something. This is needed in order to truly enjoy or learn something that is shown to you. Concentration is when you are “in the zone” or in deep focus in completing a task. This is needed in order to complete something to the best of your ability. Inspiration is when something “lights a spark” or makes you want to do something after seeing or hearing something. Without inspiration earth will not be what it is today. Inspiration makes people want to improve thing which improves overall life experience worldwide depending on what they fix. When using all of these three things together creating or doing anything is possible.

Supreme Court Justice Inbound!!!

This week Sonya Sotomayor visited our school to speak to us about her life. I felt very honored to have someone of such great authority to grace us with her presence at our school. She could have been in a million different places such a Yale and speak with those students. Yet she choose our school to speak and tell us about her life struggles. I was very excited to be able to see her in person because, I read her book and there was a lot that I can relate to her with. She didn’t have an easy life growing up yet she still became successful. Her speech was given on money in the student center at 7 pm. If you were not able to attend last Monday hopefully she will come back next year. I am very happy to be the very few people to say I was able to attend this event.

Where do I Stand….

Blog B

This week we received midterm grade for the first half of the semester. I was so excited to receive my grades because, I knew I was not failing anything. I expected my lowest grade to a B- which I expected to be media class. When I seen my grades I was let down and very disappointed with myself. So then I thought to myself what did I do wrong to receive grades like this. None of my grades were failing but, I felt very disappointed in myself.

My highest grade was an A- which I received in history class with my next highest being a B+ in economics class. My lower grades were a C+ which I received in INQ and Media class. My lowest grade which I received was a C in math class which actually surprised me a lot. As I viewed these grades for a while it finally hit me where I went wrong. As midterm grades became closer and closer I started to slack of in some classes. For example in INQ I became lazy in my blogs and decided not to do all of them. I thought it wouldn’t affect my grade it I don’t do like one or two. One problem with that is I forgot blogs are basically 60% of grade.

This ended up being a much needed rude awakening to get me back on track with my work. I thought that my family and I pay money for me to attend college and I’m wasting time and money because, I would rather go to a party then do a blog or study for an upcoming test. If I have to pay for college I might as well learn something while I am here. I don’t want to just be another student just barely passing my classes and know nearly nothing in my field of study. Now I know that there are no real brakes in college because, it is very easy to slack off and you may not realize how it is affecting your grade until it is too late.

A Moment for Deep Thought…

Blog A

Critical thinking is basically the unspoken truths behind a peace of literature or something you heard. It is as if you are understanding the deeper meaning behind a statement which you have heard. For example Nike has a phrase “Just Do It.” To some this just may not have much meaning behind it “just do it”. If you think of it there is a lot of meaning behind that little phrase. One main thing that people don’t think about is the period at the end. One may think what is so special behind a simple period.

A period is means that it is the end of a sentence. After a period that sentence is over and you can’t add anything else to it. A period means that it is the end. So “just do it” is saying do the goal or challenge that was given. By adding the period to the end of it just reinforces what that statement is saying. This means to just complete your task “period” no excuses. This mean that the period is saying there is nothing else to say no excuses.

All of this can be brought to you when a person uses critical thinking in a statement or through everyday life. Critical thinking is expected to be used all the time when in college. By the end of college the use of critical thinking should be second nature to you. I use critical thinking a lot myself when I am given projects in college. When we are given a task I try to find a deeper meaning behind my answer in order to complete my task to the best of my ability. In today’s world companies want to hire people that practice critical thinking in order to better their businesses. Critical thinking is a skill that everyone should master to the best of their ability.

Homecoming Game....

This week was one of the biggest week's of the year. This week we played a school called stone hill which is a rivalry of southern. A lot of alumni came out to this game to see old coaches and be reunited with some of their old teammates. It was a very good game but, in the end stone hill ended up ended southern's three game win streak. This was a home game for Southern Connecticut with the stands filled with fans and even the band started to play. I felt helpless as I watched stone hill come back because, I was a red shirt freshman which means I sit out a year. So I will have to wait a year to defend our field in one of the biggest games of the year.

Weekly Dosage...

This week’s words are mastery, perfection, and dedication which is needed to be the best you can be. Mastery means that you know all the tips and tricks to doing and activity nearly perfectly. People who master a certain field usually get paid the most at jobs or are bosses at a job. Perfection is when something is flawless and you want things to be perfect so you can get the maximum benefits for your hard work. The next word is dedication which means that you put all your focus and energy into doing something. This can mean practicing extra in something you are bad in to help you master the activity you are doing. If you use these three things you can be the best at any activity but, to reach that level takes hard work.

Me in six words…

Greatness is earned through hard work… I feel this can summarize my life in just those six words. I had to work for a lot of things that I did which come from sports and my family. In my mom I was the only child before my little sister was born. My whole family pushed me to do good with my grades and failure wasn’t an option. Also in sports no team is going to roll over and just let us beat them. Every person that was ever great in that this world had to work very hard at it. Truthfully I feel that it is nothing wrong with hard work as long as you push yourself and not just give up. I remember one year in football the coaches would push us so hard in practice that people quit. I know that it may feel like to much work to handle but, the coaches know when to stop. They are not going to let us pass out on the field… (unless we lose our homecoming game in scsu last game). I feel you should never quit unless you went all out and have no more to give. There is a big difference between stop running because you don’t feel like it and stop running because you cant breath. You cant be lazy if you want to be great in something. You need deliberate practice in order to master something and become great at it. I played football for 10 years out of my 18 years of my life and I know what it takes to be great. Even though I played football for 10 years I feel that I am not the best at my position but, I know a lot of tips and tricks to beat different people.

How do you see yourself???

Everyone is different so people have different looks and ideas on what they believe in. Some people have more grit then others but, does that make you better then someone else. Also what plays a major role is if someone can take shame or not. Everyone reacts different someone people may be ashamed of something and have it change their life for worse while others take shame and try to overcome it. One quote from the reading is “can we gain strength from shame?” by social worker Berne brown. I believe that if you can overcome shame you can become stronger as a person. In group 1 we spoke about how there was a doctor that made a bad call that got someone killed. He allowed a patient to leave the hospital to early and they ended up dying because, they didn’t have proper care. So they doctor never spoke about it because, he was so ashamed of it. So he never shared it with his fellow doctors to warn them so that it won’t happen twice so no one else gets hurt. If he would of spoke it out with someone he wouldn’t have felt as bad and he could have saved someone else’s life if another doctor makes another bad call. Hearing this story brings up a good inquiry question. Is it worth it to not admit to a mistake even if it could possible kill someone. I think that you should at least tell a co-worker so you can help them fix your error indirectly. I think that it is morally wrong for you to let someone die and you know that it is all your fault. I think if a doctor applies more GRIT to their work studies they wont be in a situation to have to hide theirs faults.

Pain never last…

One thing that I needed persistence for is comes around every year. This major challenge that I face every year is football on a team. I love football but, it is a lot of work and you sacrifice a lot in order to play it. You don’t have much free time and it is a lot of work that has its hot days and its freezing cold days. With all of this hard work there is no guarantee that you will win all of your games or enjoy the experience or even have a chance to play during the actual game. Football is a major commitment that you take and puts a when toile on your body. When practicing you may feel tired and not want to practice because, you just came from school and its hot then after that you have to do homework. Some people may think that’s it’s too much work and may say I can’t go to practice. The only thing is a lot of homework or you being tired and hot is not an excuse to miss practice. One thing that I do to try and get past not wanting to practice is that I just try and tough it out. I may not want to practice but, I have to so I might as well try and make it fun. If you practice and you don’t have fun you will be bored which will only make practice worse. Doing this helped me get through long and tough days much easier. This can help me forget about the hot or cold weather and help practice end faster. Playing football taught me a lot and changed how I think about task in my life. I realized not everything you do is going to be easy and if you stay persistent the outcome of your hard work almost always pays off.

First College Weekend

The first week that all of the freshman finally came to SCSU they gave us a day filled with activities. These activities included games, a DJ with a dance floor, lots of food, and a movie. These events were given to us because, they wanted to show us how fun SCSU is and also meet our classmates in a fun way. These events took place behind Chase hall and in front of Hickerson hall. They closed off the whole street in order to fill the street with the different attractions and food vendors. Overall I believe it was a great event to bring the SCSU family together as a family. I met a lot of people that weekend from the different events given to us for that one day. In the future I believe that they should do this event every year because, it works.

Weekly Dosage

This week’s words are persistence, stigma, and discipline. Persistence is when you continue to try and complete a task even when it becomes hard. Persistence is needed in anything you want to be good in. not everything is going to be easy but, when you finish a task to the best of your ability it usually pays off. The next word is stigma which means something that holds you back such as your vision being weaker in one eye then in the other. Most people have some sort of stigma even if they know it or not. As long as you try you best even a weakness that you can’t really help can hold you back. The next word is discipline which means how well you can follow rules or instructions. This is needed when having any type of job because, if you don’t follow rules you won’t have that job for long. If you can stay disciplined enough to continue a task even when it becomes hard or if there are shortcut people will take notice to it. If you use these three things you can accomplish any goal.

Is it really worth it….

One major problem not just at southern but, at all colleges is the student having sex. There is nothing wrong with students having sex but, is it safe sex? Many student have sex with no protection and there are many problems with that. You may catch something from your partner when having unprotected sex. Also you can end up getting a girl pregnant or if you’re a girl getting yourself pregnant if you do not practice safe sex. The one thing that I suggest everyone do is be smart when it comes to sex. Use a condom and play it safe. The condom is not for just you it is also for your partner or any future partner that you may have. The worst feeling could be that you received an STD from someone just because, you were to lazy to just use a condom.

Your Weekly dosage….

This weeks words are agency, independence, and necessity. Agency definition is related to power, movement, and being initiative. Agency is always needed if you want to get something done. The next word is independence which means that you are getting something done on your own. Being independent is important because, that means you don’t have to worry about people when you are trying to get something done. Necessity is something that is needed to accomplish something or to even survive. It is always good to take care of your necessities so that you will never have to worry about it and you can be able to take care of your business.

Spending it wisely…

During this time study I realized that I procrastinate a lot more than I thought that I did. I realized that I like to delay or do something else before I do my work. For example I am writing this blog right now at 10:45 at night the day it is due. I spent only nine hours last week truly doing homework. Most of that time was because, I had mandatory study hall. Any other time that I try and do work outside of study hall I will just talk most of time and just not get anything done or not do my homework well because, I am not paying attention. I did only 9 hours to where most students should be doing at least 20-30 hours of homework and studying. I spent most of my time at football practice. On my down time I never feel like doing homework because, I am too tired from football practice. So I most of the time I will just talk to my friends or watch t.v. My favorite thing to do of all time which is to sleep and get rest. The best way for me to end this problem is for me to do a little bit of my work every day. If I don’t wait till the day that it is due to try and complete all I wont be as tired plus I will be more willing to do it. No matter what I will always be tired from football and that is just the life of an student athlete. I just need a better way to manage my time. From football practice and study hall I have no choice but to follow the set times that I am given. So I can find a way to squeeze in a little bit of homework and studying I feel I can get my work done and understand my classes better.

Finally made it….

So far in college my school work was not as hard as I thought it would be. I feel only a few test only in my media class were hard. But, mostly test were hard if you don’t prepare for the test. If you study and our homework for that class be successful in that class should be easier. So far I had only one failure in my class which was in inquiry. The only reason I wasn’t ready was because, it was for a quiz that I was not prepared for. We were assigned a reading that I didn’t know that we had so I never even looked at it. So I learned that I have to check all my emails because, homework can be assigned at any time so I should always be ready. I had a few disappointments my media test because, the test are hard and the things that I study are never on the test. The best thing that I do try to focus on the whole chapter because, I may study a curtain thing for a long time and it may end up not even being on the test. I try and used the method of doing big projects early in bits in pieces. I am a big procrastinator and if I do a little bit every day I can get my work done. My small goal that I have is that I want to complete all of my homework this week and complete it on time. By doing this I will be more prepared and understand my work so I can complete my major goal of getting good grades. If you think about it college is not really that hard as long as you prepare yourself for the work being given to you. As of now I think that I am doing pretty good in college so far.

Pep Rally fun!!!

A few weeks ago I attended the pep rally the school was having for that week’s games. During this event there were a few artistic performances from the step team and a musical performance. This event took place in front of the student center on the grass. During this event the step team displayed their routine in front of almost 200 students. Their performance was one of the best of the night because, the team moved as one their steps looked cool and were catchy. The musical performance was done by a young artist who attend this school. He performed a few songs in front of his classmates. This event was a great way to build hype for the events for that weekend.

Is this a fair test???

Is it fair to see how successful someone will be in life based on if they eat a marshmallow or not? They tried an experiment on 4 year olds to leave them in a room for 15 minutes and not eat a marshmallow. It may be hard for a child to control themselves if they don’t have anything to do for 15 minutes and have a marshmallow staring them in the face and they cant eat it. As adults 15 minutes may be nothing and go by fast when waiting. Even for me 15 minutes can feel like 30 minutes if I have nothing to do. I wont have a nervous breakdown but, I may be bored and I have the advantage of self-control to help me wait. Most children have a very short attention span so 15 minutes may feel like an hour to them. Also every child is different some may eat the marshmallow because they want to be rebellious while others may try and wait. Even if they want to wait some may not be able to control themselves and eat the marshmallow anyway. So this experiment may not be fair to give to a child.

On the other hand it would be interesting how children have reacted. Some children have actually passed this test so it is passable and also the children that have passed the test were very successful in fields such as school. Another question one may ask is “how can you make a judgment if you haven’t seen the results for all the children?”. In one if the articles it explain how only about 90 out of 500 students. This means that the test may be false or not completely accurate. This is while that may be a great INQ question because, how can you talk down about students if you don’t have all the results for your testing. Truthfully I believe as a child you may not do good on the test but, still be fine when it comes to school. For example if I tell my sister not to do something she would do it in spite of what I said because, she knows it will get me angry. She loves to push my buttons so I use to always think I cant imagine how she would do in school if she doesn’t listen to me. To my finding she is an excellent student and was student on the month for her grade. She has good grades and does very well is school. So I believe you cant just make a judgment about someone as a child. No one can foresee how someone’s life is going to be. Only that one person can set the path for their life.
